Psychological Practice in English

In recent years, many international professionals and families have chosen to move to the areas of the Langhe, Roero, Monferrato, and Turin. While these territories have become increasingly international, access to psychotherapy in English is still limited.

Recognizing this growing need, I offer psychological support in English for individuals and families who are living or working in Piedmont.

Treatments

  • The internal experience of depression is often not simply sadness but a profound loss of motivation and diminished ability to feel desire or interest in life. In some ways it can resemble a state of deep psychological rest, a moment in which the mind protects itself during difficult times by slowing down.

With the support of a professional, this period can become an opportunity to understand what lies beneath the experience and gradually reconnect with vitality and emotional color in life.

  • Anxiety can be understood as a messenger knocking at our door, asking to be heard. The same can be true for recurring physical symptoms that do not find resolution through medical care.

When emotions cannot be expressed in words, they may find their way through the body. Sometimes we cannot listen to these signals on our own and may need the support of a professional and a safe space in which they can be explored and understood.

  • Many people come to therapy following a painful conflict with a partner, a family member, or a colleague. Working through our meaningful relationships is a lifelong challenge, yet it is also one of the most fulfilling aspects of life. For expats, these dynamics can sometimes be further complicated by the experience of living within a different cultural context.

  • Events such as divorce, expatriation, parenthood, the loss of a loved one, job loss, or illness can place our minds and bodies under significant pressure and awaken old fears and sorrows. Finding ourselves again and rediscovering our direction during these times can be difficult to face alone.

  • The years between 16 and 25 are often complex and turbulent. This period involves preparing for adulthood, gaining autonomy from one’s family, navigating first romantic relationships and friendships, and facing important existential questions and life choices. These challenges can sometimes lead to moments of distress. I am particularly passionate about working with people in this phase of life.

  • Living in a country different from one’s own can be a deeply enriching experience, but it may also bring emotional and psychological challenges. Moving abroad often involves leaving behind familiar relationships, cultural references, and support networks.

Adapting to a new language, social environment, and way of life can sometimes lead to feelings of loneliness, uncertainty, or disorientation. Important life transitions — such as relocation for work, building relationships in a new culture, or raising children in a multicultural family — can raise complex questions about identity, belonging, and personal

Psychotherapy can offer a space to reflect on these experiences, to make sense of the changes one is going through, and to find new ways of feeling at home both within oneself and in the surrounding world.

Who am I

My name is Serena. I am a clinical psychologist who graduated from the University of Turin. I work with a psychodynamic orientation and I am currently continuing my training at the School of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy of Turin (SPP).

The psychoanalytic perspective can at first seem metaphorical and complex, yet it is extraordinary in its ability to shed light where we often find confusion or darkness.

I enjoy working both with individuals and with organizations, keeping the mind active and open to looking both outward and inward. Whenever possible, I also make use of the group setting, which I consider a powerful and valuable tool for fostering change.

My clinical work is conducted in both Italian and English. I have gained experience working with people facing the challenges of living far from their home country, as well as with the dynamics that often emerge in multicultural families.

I am continually struck by the richness of my patients’ stories. I value the opportunity to embark on a journey together with them — discovering untapped potential, unspoken desires, and emotions that may have been held inside — with the aim of gently lightening the burdens they carry and helping them move forward with renewed clarity, color, and serenity.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change”
